Safety rules
Climbing is a potentially dangerous activity. It's important that you're aware of the risk and follow HUT Letohallen's safety rules.
Age limits
Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 18. The adult doesn't need to climb, but is responsible for ensuring the child follows the rules, and can supervise up to 4 children. Young people between 13 and 17 can be at the centre alone, but must have written permission from a parent/guardian and be familiar with the safety rules. You must be at least 15 to be in the training area.
General safety rules
- Listen to the staff and follow their instructions.
- Use an indoor voice, avoid unnecessary noise and don't run inside the centre.
- You must always wear a top – climbing without a top or only in a sports bra is not permitted.
- Don't take loose items up into the climbing walls or the Via Ferrata routes.
- Only use UIAA/CE-approved equipment when you climb and belay.
- Report faults, defects or dangerous behaviour to the staff.
- Wear climbing shoes – climbing barefoot or in socks is not allowed.
- If you're under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you may not be at the centre.
- If you have health problems that could be made worse by climbing, you must avoid it. We have special climbing harnesses for pregnant women.
Auto-belay
Anyone can climb with auto-belay (weight limits 10–120 kg). Before you climb, you must have gone through a training station or received guidance. Always do a self-check/buddy check, check that the carabiner is attached correctly and locked, and function-test the auto-belay before starting. Lower yourself feet first, and stay close to the wall on the line the auto-belay is attached to.Via Ferrata
Anyone can climb the routes (weight limit 120 kg). Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult over 18. NEVER climb up without being clipped onto the steel cable with a climbing harness and hook. Follow the colour codes and height requirements: orange over 80 cm, green/dark green over 110 cm, blue/red over 140 cm.Bouldering
You are responsible for avoiding fall zones – always give way to whoever is higher on the wall. The whole mat is a fall zone: don't play, run or lie on it. Grey holds are for down-climbing only. Children under 13 must always be supervised by an adult over 18. No weight limit.Rope climbing (top rope and lead)
To belay on top rope or lead, a belay certificate is required (top-rope certificate for top rope, Brattkort for lead and top rope). Without a belay certificate, you can be supervised by a person over 18 with a belay certificate, provided you are at least 13 and the supervisor always keeps a backup on the dead end of the rope and stands on the ground with full attention. Always do a buddy check, never let go of the brake grip, and only hold on to climbing holds. The training area
